SEAFRET BLANK YOU OUT

Right at the start of the year, in-sync pair Seafret, singer Jack Sedman and guitarist Harry Draper, released their debut album Tell Me It’s Real, a shimmering cascade of guitar-led atmospherics. Since then, we haven’t heard all that much from the Yorkshire band, but that’s because they spent the summer writing and recording new material which we have our first taster of in ‘Blank You Out’. With a punchy band set-up, Seafret sound bolder than ever before, with Sedman’s textural tones sounding close and confrontational as he tries to tear himself away from a sense of longing. While the drums certainly add a level of indie-rock drama, it’s also Draper’s string sections that draw our interest - close-chord acoustic strums, stadium size electric riffs, and delicately reverberated frets - modulate along with the lyrical conflict. Acting as spokesperson for the track, Sedman says “Sometimes in life you'd give anything to be with the person or people you love the most. 'Blank You Out' is about trying to find a way to distract yourself in the times you are separated from them." - HT
